The fourth edition of the Great Shasta Rail Trail Run is set to take place, offering runners an unforgettable experience along this scenic and historically rich route. Situated just outside McCloud with stunning views of Mount Shasta, the trail provides a relatively flat course that's perfect for both newcomers seeking their first ultra-distance challenge or seasoned athletes looking to improve on personal records. The event features three distances: 10K, 30K, and 50K. All runners will start at Bartle Trailhead along Harris Springs Road early in the morning—5:30 AM for the longer races and 7 AM for the shorter distance—with a cut-off time of 12 hours to complete any course. Participants can expect well-stocked aid stations every three to six miles, providing essential hydration, electrolytes, and traditional runner snacks. The trail is known for its crisp mountain air and incredible views, making it an ideal setting for runners looking to immerse themselves in nature while pushing their limits. Upon finishing the race, all participants will receive a finisher's medal as well as a post-race meal, ensuring everyone has something nourishing after crossing the finish line. The event also includes a pre-race packet pickup on race morning from 4:30 to 6:45 AM for the various distances. In addition to the run itself, McCloud and its surrounding areas offer numerous attractions such as Burney Falls, Lassen National Park, Subway Cave, and excellent fly fishing destinations. These sites provide a perfect complement to your racing experience, allowing you to explore the region's natural beauty beyond the race day activities. Registration for swag is open until June 23rd. This year, there will be no burro race option as it did not attract enough participants last time; however, this event remains an integral part of other local races such as Burney Basin Days and Weekend at Burney.
