Nestled within Dartmoor's rugged terrain, the Hameledon Hammer Half-Marathon and its accompanying events offer runners an unforgettable trail running experience. The 9th edition of this series introduces two races: the traditional half-marathon covering a challenging route with over 800 meters of ascent, and the newly expanded Hameldown 7EVEN event, now stretching to a grueling eight miles. Both routes begin in Widecombe-in-the-Moor, set against the backdrop of Dartmoor's iconic granite landscapes. The course itself is marked by well-defined trails that wind through grassy paths, rocky outcrops, and muddy tracks, occasionally weaving through dense forestry glades. A significant feature of both races is a double ascent up the Hameldown Ridge, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding moors and tors. The Hameledon Hammer Ultra takes runners on an extended journey across Dartmoor's most distinctive landscapes, branching out beyond the original half-marathon route to explore lesser-known areas east, west, and north. This ultra-distance event is designed for experienced trail runners who are comfortable with self-navigation; a GPX file and map can be downloaded from the OuterEdge Events website. Race day amenities include comprehensive course marking and marshalling for both the Half-Marathon and 7EVEN events, ensuring clear guidance throughout. First aid stations will also be available along the route and at the finish line in Widecombe-in-the-Moor. For the Ultra event, runners must carry their own cups as part of a mandatory kit list to reduce plastic waste. All participants who complete any race receive bespoke medals celebrating their achievement. Event t-shirts are available for purchase through online registration and can be collected on race day along with other OuterEdge merchandise like hoodies, technical tees, bobble hats, and beanies. Dogs are not permitted during the races to ensure a safe environment for all runners. To provide additional peace of mind, participants have the option to buy XCover insurance, which allows them to receive refunds if they cannot attend due to unforeseen circumstances. With its combination of challenging terrain, stunning scenery, and supportive race organization, this event promises an exhilarating day out on Dartmoor's trails.
