The 40th anniversary of the Hardwick 10k promises an unforgettable experience for runners and spectators alike. This classic out-and-back course features challenging terrain that showcases some of Derbyshire's most picturesque landscapes. Runners will begin their journey with a vigorous ascent to Hardwick Hall, where they'll be greeted by marshals at the halfway point after tackling a steep climb. The descent continues towards the charming Hardwick Inn for more encouragement and support from locals before another uphill stretch takes them up Tibshelf Road. Finally, competitors enjoy a swift 1km downhill run into Pilsley village to an enthusiastic welcome. This year's event supports Edale Mountain Rescue through donations collected as part of entry fees, with additional direct sponsorship options available on the race website for those who wish to contribute further. Registration opens at the Elm Centre, adjacent to Pilsley Primary School from 18:00. Entries are £20 for UKA/ARC affiliated runners and £22 for unaffiliated participants, closing on June 30th, 2026 with no entries accepted on race day. Competitors will receive chip timing ID tags at registration to ensure accurate results. Ample parking is available near the Elm Centre and St Mary's Church Hall, which also provide toilets and showers as well as changing facilities for athletes. Water stations are strategically placed throughout the course and finish line area to keep runners hydrated during their race. Spectators can enjoy refreshments from various vendors set up along the route. Awards will be given in several categories including age groups, team competition (with prizes awarded to the fastest 4 men's teams and 3 women’s teams), £100 for breaking course records (Samuel Moakes' male record of 31:33 or Hayley Gill's female record of 38:19) and special recognition for Pilsely residents. Every finisher will receive a unique commemorative t-shirt celebrating the event's milestone anniversary. In addition to these accolades, there is an exciting opportunity to win £150 worth of running shoes with expert fitting from Run Forest by simply contributing £1 at registration or during the race day festivities. For more detailed information and updates leading up to the event, visit www.hardwickrun.co.uk. Remember that entry fees are non-refundable. Organized under ARC rules and regulations (ARC Race Permit: ARC/26/0350), this year's Hardwick 10k is set to be a memorable celebration of endurance running in the heart of Derbyshire.
