Holme Moss Fell Race

The Holme Moss Fell Race is an exhilarating challenge tailored for seasoned fell runners seeking to test their mettle against the rugged terrain of the Peak District. This 28.5-kilometer (17.8-mile) course, with a formidable ascent of 1,285 meters (4,215 feet), winds through some of Yorkshire's most dramatic landscapes.
The race begins at Cartworth Moor Cricket Club in Holmfirth, HD9 2TU, about one mile south of the town center. Participants are required to register here and will start their journey from Grid Reference SE133067, located approximately half a mile away from the registration point. With a maximum entry limit of 200 runners, this event is strictly for those aged 18 or older who possess advanced navigation skills.
The race course features several critical checkpoints where cut-off times must be met: Holme Moss (12:15), Crowden (13:00), Bareholme (13:35), Laddow Rocks (14:10), and a final return to Holme Moss at 15:15. The sweepers will depart promptly at 11:05 am, ensuring that no runner starts late.
Runners are advised to carry their own hydration containers as water stations along the route do not provide cups or bottles. Upon completion of the race, participants can look forward to a complimentary meal consisting of sandwiches and cake, alongside refreshments for all finishers. Spectators who wish to support the event can enjoy free snacks in exchange for donations towards Mountain Rescue efforts.
Awards will be given to the top 10 male runners, the first five women, winners across various age categories (in 5-year increments), and a special under-23 category. Each runner may win only one prize unless they secure their team's victory based on cumulative rankings of the first three positions from each squad.
Holme Valley Mountain Rescue will ensure safety throughout the race, with a raffle organized in support of their funds during the event day. Camping facilities are available nearby for those wishing to extend their stay and explore further beyond the race weekend.
