Experience the John Brown Time Trial Series, where racing and community spirit converge. Spanning four Thursday evenings—June 11th, July 23rd, August 20th, and September 10th—the series caters to all cycling enthusiasts with its flexible categories and diverse race formats. Join this unique event in the Kansas river bottoms northwest of DeSoto, where you can test your TT bike against a flat 5-mile course. Whether you're racing solo or teaming up for a duo—coed or mixed—you'll have opportunities to showcase your skills across multiple races. The John Brown Time Trial Emporium ensures that every participant finds their perfect category, from seasoned racers to beginners. Race intervals range from 30 to 60 seconds, determined by the number of participants signed up each night. After the initial wave, enjoy a brief break before tackling your second time trial. A third race is possible during summer months for those who wish to push their limits further. The course offers a predominantly west-to-east route, providing scenic views along Kansas River bottoms and challenging racers with its flat terrain. Participants can join the "9-minute club" for men or the "10-minute club" for women, aiming to beat these benchmarks on subsequent races. Registration opens after 5:45 PM at Revolution Racing's DeSoto’s Riverfest park located at 33440 W 79th St. Race starts promptly after 6:30 PM with a single entry fee of $25 covering two time trials per night. A U25 race is available for youth under the age of 25, priced at just $10. Diverse categories ensure there's something for everyone: - Aero: Utilize USA Cycling legal equipment including shaved arms and eyebrows. - Modern Merckx: Non-aero road frames allowed with wheels up to 30 mm deep. - Retro Merckx: Round tubes only, box rims; a 5-second bonus applies for wool jerseys. - Single Speed: Retro Merckx plus one gear—fixed or single—with working front brakes required. Duo races allow you to team up with friends, combining race types like Aero Duo or Modern Merckx. The coed duo category adds an extra layer of challenge and camaraderie. Bike qualification is strictly enforced by the promoter Jim Whittaker; no cheating allowed except in the Cheater Class. While racing for peanuts might be the catchphrase, first-place winners across all categories will receive a Revolution Racing Pint glass. End-of-season celebrations include a beer party with additional series placings announced throughout the season.
