The Kollective Ride Series emerges as a beacon of connection, community spirit, and a shared dedication to safer roads across Ontario. This initiative brings together the Share the Road Cycling Coalition (Coalition) and Racer Sportif—two organizations that have been partners in promoting cycling safety for over 15 years. Their collaboration began after OPP Sergeant Greg Stobbart's tragic death in 2006, which was caused by a motorist with multiple driving infractions. In response to this preventable tragedy, Greg’s widow Eleanor McMahon founded the Coalition in 2007 and successfully advocated for stricter penalties for suspended drivers, resulting in the passage of Greg’s Law in 2008. Since then, both organizations have continued their efforts to enhance road safety through legislative reforms, public awareness campaigns, and significant investments in cycling infrastructure. The Kollective builds on this legacy by organizing a series of rides throughout the summer that foster community among cyclists while promoting safer interactions between motorists and riders. On September 20th, the Kollective will host its signature event at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Halton Hills—the Share the Road Gran Fondo. This ride commemorates Sergeant Stobbart’s legacy by celebrating cycling culture and advocating for continued road safety improvements. The gran fondo offers a challenging yet rewarding course that showcases Ontario's scenic landscapes while highlighting the Coalition’s ongoing commitment to safer roads. The Kollective aims not only to deliver an exceptional riding experience but also to strengthen the social fabric of Ontario’s cycling community, welcoming new riders from all backgrounds and age groups. By providing an accessible entry point into the sport, this initiative introduces younger cyclists to the values that underpin Share the Road's mission—community engagement, safety advocacy, and cultural enrichment. Through its series of rides and events, The Kollective honors the past while shaping a brighter future for cycling in Ontario. It invites riders from across the province to join together in celebrating progress and continuing the journey towards safer roads for all cyclists. The initiative’s focus on inclusivity ensures that new generations can experience the joy and camaraderie of riding, connecting them with like-minded individuals who share a passion for cycling safety and community building. The Kollective is more than just a series of rides; it's a movement dedicated to fostering a safer and more vibrant cycling culture in Ontario. Join us this summer as we ride together towards a better future—one pedal stroke at a time.
