Welcome to the Kinloss Running Festival, returning for its third year with an exciting lineup of races set against the backdrop of Kinloss Barracks Training Area along Scotland’s Moray coast. This festival offers something unique and challenging for runners at all levels. The event features a variety of distances including a 1K Fun Run, 5K race, 10K run, and the Ray Hughes Half Marathon. Each course is meticulously designed to showcase different aspects of Kinloss Barracks Training Area’s diverse terrain, from smooth tarmac on the airfield perimeters to rougher off-road trails. For those seeking a more unconventional challenge, the Back Yard Ultra (BYU) offers an intriguing looped route that covers 4.1 miles each hour until only one runner remains standing. This event is held both day and night within Kinloss Barracks Training Area, providing runners with unique experiences on flat terrain with minimal elevation changes. The Ray Hughes Half Marathon follows a carefully measured course along the northern runway and taxiways of the airfield. Runners will enjoy the smooth concrete surfaces while taking in panoramic views from this strategic location. Similarly, the 10K route offers an out-and-back loop that combines road running on tarmac with sections through the barracks training area. Registration for most events opens at Kinloss Barracks Training Area on Sunday, August 30th, starting at 8:30 AM. Participants in the Back Yard Ultra should arrive earlier to complete necessary security checks and attend a race briefing from 7:00 PM onwards on Friday, August 28th. Security measures are stringent due to the event’s location within Kinloss Barracks Training Area. All attendees must adhere strictly to instructions provided by organizers and follow any signage or directions given by marshals for entry and throughout the day. Parking is available in a designated area near the Race Village with a nominal £5 donation per vehicle, payable on arrival at registration. It's important that all participants familiarize themselves with security protocols and ensure they have appropriate identification if required. The Kinloss Running Festival promises an engaging atmosphere filled with camaraderie among runners of various abilities. Whether you're aiming for personal bests or simply looking to enjoy the scenic routes, this event offers a memorable running experience in one of Scotland’s most distinctive settings.
