LA RONDE DU CASSOULET

The La Ronde du Cassoulet is an exhilarating evening race that takes place on the eve of Castelnaudary's celebrated Fête du Cassoulet, typically beginning at 8 PM. This unique event has its roots firmly planted in local rugby traditions from the late twentieth century when it served as a training route for rugby players.
In recent years, however, this historic circuit has been reclaimed by runners eager to celebrate their passion on the eve of one of France's most beloved food festivals. The race is organized under the banner of Industeam and supported enthusiastically by local businesses such as Café de l'Industrie, which played a pivotal role in reviving the event after a hiatus due to the pandemic.
The 17th edition promises an engaging urban course featuring charming elevation changes that lead runners up to the picturesque Moulin du Cugarel. Participants can choose between one or two laps of 4 kilometers each, with both options offering thrilling sections and gentle stretches along the Canal du Midi's towpath, providing a stunning backdrop against the Montagne Noire.
Race officials on motorcycles and bicycles ensure safety throughout the event while also adding to its festive atmosphere. The day kicks off earlier in the afternoon with activities for children at Place de Verdun, where young participants can take part in short runs tailored by age group. Families are invited to sign an authorization form before their little ones set out.
As evening approaches, a leisurely walk of 4 kilometers begins at 7 PM on Cours de la République, welcoming all comers with no formal registration required—just €10 for entry and a commemorative item upon completion. The Marche Nordique Classée follows closely at 7:30 PM, offering an additional challenge over two laps of the same route.
The main event kicks off precisely at 8 PM when runners set out on either the 4-kilometer or 8-kilometer race course. Both distances are classified as competitive events and require participants to have a valid medical certificate (PPS) and FFA license for registration, which can be done online or on-site until all available bib numbers are claimed.
Winners in various categories will be recognized at the ceremony by no later than 9:45 PM. The race concludes with an evening of celebration as participants transition into a vibrant community festival complete with live music and traditional Cassoulet feasts hosted at Halle aux Grains, organized jointly by local merchants from the Chaurien Office du Commerce.
