Meteor Mile

The Meteor Mile 2026 invites runners of all ages to experience an unforgettable evening race along Gloucestershire Airport's main runway. Set for Friday, August 28th at 8:00 PM, this unique event offers a fast and traffic-free mile run under the setting sun.
Participants will gather on the airport grounds from 6:15 PM onwards, with registration taking place until 7:15 PM outside the terminal building. After a brief race briefing once clearance is granted to enter the airport premises, all runners will proceed together towards the start line located at one end of the runway. The race begins promptly at 8:00 PM and concludes as athletes make their way back along the same path toward the terminal.
The course itself presents an ideal setting for a sprint with its flat terrain and clear path free from any air traffic disruptions, ensuring a smooth experience for all competitors. Spectators can expect to see runners dash across this specially designated space in pursuit of personal bests or simply for fun.
In addition to being open to athletes of various skill levels, the Meteor Mile welcomes families eager to participate together. Prizes will be awarded not only to the top three senior male and female finishers but also to the fastest junior (U15) runners and "Almost Athletes" in both genders. Entry fees are £12.50 for adults and £5.50 for those under 15, with children aged below eleven needing an adult chaperone.
Parking is available at the airport though spaces may be limited, so carpooling is recommended to ensure everyone finds a spot conveniently near Race HQ. Participants should leave their belongings in vehicles as no changing or baggage facilities will be provided on-site. Refreshments and post-race celebrations including prize presentations await runners at The Aviator bar.
Entries must be submitted by Monday, August 24th; walk-up registrations are not accepted due to the event's unique logistics.
