The Cotswold Ultra, marking the first day of The Thames Challenge, invites runners to embark on an unforgettable journey through the serene landscapes and historic towns along England's iconic River Thames. Participants must arrive at Kemble Station between 6:00 AM and 6:30 AM for registration and equipment checks before a race brief commences at 7:00 AM. The adventure begins with a trek from Kemble Station, following the Thames Path to its source. Runners will then retrace their steps back along Wysis Way, weaving through Neigh Bridge Country Park until they reach Manor Ho. The route takes competitors across several bridges and past Lower Mill Nature Reserve before heading into Aston Keynes. From Castle Eaton village, runners follow a path that briefly departs from the river to Blackford Farm, where it rejoins the Thames for a short stretch before venturing over meadows once more. This scenic course features numerous picturesque bends in the river, charming bridges, and locks—highlighted by Shifford Lock and Newbridge. The route continues through Bablock Hythe, offering glimpses of quaint villages along its winding path until reaching Travelodge Oxford Abingdon Road, marking the finish line for The Cotswold Ultra. Throughout this challenging yet rewarding journey, participants must remain self-sufficient, carrying essential items such as a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, an OS Map or downloadable maps provided by organizers, a compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, and first aid kit. This event promises to immerse runners in the beauty of England’s countryside while testing their endurance and navigation skills along one of Britain's most celebrated waterways.
