The 17th edition of TdeH, a renowned winter mountain run, takes place on the shortest Saturday in December 2026. This challenging race starts and finishes at Askham, nestled along the edge of Lake District, offering runners an unforgettable experience through rugged terrain. Participants will traverse approximately 38 miles around Helvellyn, ascending to nearly 600 meters above sea level. The route is a demanding circuit that primarily follows mountain trails and bridleways, with significant elevation changes totaling about 2,000 meters of ascent and descent. Fell running expertise and strong navigational skills are crucial for success. Entries are strictly limited to experienced runners due to the race's challenging nature. Novice trail runners should look elsewhere as this event demands a high level of fitness and technical ability. Registration opens on Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Askham Community Centre, with an option for Saturday morning registration between 6:00 am and 8:45 am. The last start time is set for 9:30 am, but runners must be aware that Control 2 at Side Farm in Patterdale opens only after this hour. Parking will be available on-site at the Community Centre as well as an adjacent overflow field, though participants are advised to book campervan spaces nearby if needed. The race's start time is flexible from 7:00 am until 9:30 am, but arriving early ensures a smoother experience and access to all checkpoints. Kit check will take place in the pre-start area at Askham Community Centre immediately before runners set off on their journey. This event also offers the option for participants to purchase XCover insurance, providing peace of mind with potential refunds due to unforeseen circumstances that may prevent attendance. Upon crossing the finish line, runners are greeted by a warm atmosphere and ample refreshments such as tea, coffee, and Joe's Soup—a traditional treat in the Lake District. The event continues until all runners have finished their journey, ensuring everyone is well taken care of after this grueling yet rewarding challenge. This race promises an immersive experience through breathtaking landscapes and challenging terrain, catering exclusively to those who thrive on pushing boundaries amidst nature’s splendor.
