Northumberland Run Forest Run

Sometimes you just feel like running. The Northumberland Run Forest Run takes place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, starting at 101 Woodland Rd #199, Roseneath, Ontario (Northumberland Forest). Choose from four options: The Jenny (4‑hour loop challenge), The Lieutenant Dan (7.5 km steep hills), The Bubba (9 km forest loop), or The Full Gump (24.6 km combo of all three plus Lookout Mountain). Self‑supported — no marshals on course, carry your own water and nutrition. Best dressed Forrest Gump attire wins the Gumpiest Person trophy. No dogs allowed.

Location & Trails:

• Northumberland Forest — a vast, multi‑use forest tract in Northumberland County, east of Roseneath
• Trails used: Purple Finch (3 km loop, motor‑free), Black Oak, Sweet Fern, and forest roads (vehicles may be present — step aside and wave)
• Lookout Mountain out‑and‑back section — views over the forest canopy
• No marshals on course — participants are expected to be self‑sufficient (carry phone or whistle)
• Aid available only at the start area (Location 50, see event map)

Self‑Supported Format:

• No aid stations on course. Carry your own water, nutrition, electrolytes, and emergency supplies.
• No course marshals — navigation is the runner's responsibility. The course is marked (flags or signage), but participants should download the map in advance.
• Recommend carrying a cell phone and whistle for emergencies.
• St. John Ambulance provides on‑site medical support at the start/finish area.

Forest Gump Theme — Best Dressed Prize:

• Forrest Gump inspired attire — go full Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Lieutenant Dan's missing legs (costume), Jenny's hippie dress, or just a simple plaid shirt and cap
• The trophy for the "Gumpiest person at the run" will be awarded
• Past costumes have included running with a box of chocolates, ping‑pong paddles, and full shrimp boat captain gear

What's Included:

• Chip timing (lap counting for The Jenny, finish times for other distances)
• Finisher medal for all participants (The Jenny finishers based on completing at least one lap? check event page)
• Post‑race refreshments (water, fruit, snacks available at start area)
• Medical support from St. John Ambulance
• Bag drop at start/finish (no valuables)
• Portable toilets on site
• Results posted online after the event

Logistics:

• Bib pickup starts at 8:00 AM on race day (Sunday, June 14)
• Start times: The Jenny at 9:00 AM, The Full Gump at 9:05 AM, The Lieutenant Dan at 9:10 AM, The Bubba at 9:15 AM
• Parking at Northumberland Forest — limited spaces, carpool recommended. Follow volunteer parking direction.
• Public transport: not available — drive from Cobourg, Port Hope, Peterborough, or Toronto (approx 1.5 hours east of Toronto).
• No dogs allowed on course (service animals excepted).
• Strollers? Not recommended for The Lieutenant Dan (steep hills) or The Full Gump; The Bubba and The Jenny may be stroller‑friendly but contact organizer first.
• Wheelchair accessibility? Some trails are natural surface — not suitable for standard wheelchairs. Contact organizer for specific accommodations.

Refund & Transfer Policy:

• No refunds (event costs are paid in advance).
• You may transfer your entry to another runner if you inform the organizer within a reasonable time before race day.
• Transfer requests: email Rod Simpson directly or use the transfer option on Race Roster.

Charity Support:

• The event happily supports St. John Ambulance — a donation is made from proceeds to support their community services and first aid training programs.
• St. John Ambulance also provides on‑site medical coverage on race day.
