Race enthusiasts, mark your calendars for the first weekend of August 2026, when Berlin will host an extraordinary marathon event. This unique race isn't just about covering distance; it's also about conquering elevation as participants climb five significant hills within and around the city. The event kicks off on Saturday at Wuhletal S-Bahn station with a challenging route that loops through eastern Berlin for nearly 44 kilometers, forming an "8" shape. The course begins by heading north towards Ahrensfelder Berg, where runners will encounter their first major climb of the day. After navigating this initial ascent, participants follow the Wuhlewanderweg southward to reach Kienberg and Biesdorfer Höhe. Here, those who wish can take a moment to ascend an observation platform for panoramic views. Continuing along the same path, runners will pass through Köpenick's historic district where they'll see a sculpture of Hauptmann before heading into Müggelheim Forest via the Müggelheimer Damms pathway. The southernmost stretch features climbs up the Kleinen Müggelberg and Kanonenberge, adding significant elevation to an otherwise relatively flat course. Returning north through Köpenick's old town once more, participants will eventually loop back towards Wuhletal S-Bahn station where they started their journey. Along this route, runners should anticipate a total of 493 meters in vertical gain across the five hills: Müggelberg (115.4m), Kanonenberge (70.1m), Biesdorfer Höhe (82m), Kienberg (102m), and Ahrensfelder Berg (114.5m). Participants are advised to prepare for a self-supported run, as the route is not marked with signs or arrows. A GPS device will be essential for navigation since the course isn't clearly indicated on footpaths alone. Self-timing using personal devices such as smartphones or GPS watches is required; runners must record their total elapsed time from start to finish and submit these results via email along with a map of their completed route, distance covered, starting date and time. Results will be published online for all participants to view. This event carries no entry fee but has limited spots available—only 10 runners can join this exclusive challenge. Only experienced athletes in good health are encouraged to apply due to the rigorous nature of both distance and elevation gain involved. Participants should note that while we provide a unique course, they must adhere strictly to rules regarding timing accuracy and fair play. Those who do not comply may face disqualification from future events organized by us. This race is an ideal opportunity for marathon runners seeking a distinctive urban challenge with historical and natural landmarks woven into the route's fabric.
