Panopticons Ultra

About the Event

Embark on an unforgettable trail adventure through East Lancashire's picturesque South Pennines with The Panopticons Ultra, a 32-mile point-to-point challenge that weaves around four stunning art installations. This unique route combines the beauty of nature and contemporary art, offering runners a blend of historical landmarks and serene landscapes.
Your journey begins at Corporation Park in Blackburn, where you'll be transported to the start line near Colourfields on the former canon battery site. As you make your way through this scenic terrain, you’ll encounter Halo atop Haslingden’s rolling hills before descending into Burnley's embrace under the watchful gaze of the Singing Ringing Tree. The tranquility of Wycoller Village awaits at Atom, a tranquil spot that marks another significant checkpoint.
The route follows parts of well-known trails like the Pennine Way and Rossendale Way, winding through the foothills of Boulsworth Hill on the Pennine Bridleway. With 4700 feet (1430 meters) of climbing over a distance of 52 kilometers, this is an ambitious but manageable challenge for seasoned trail runners.
Participants will receive detailed maps and GPX files to help navigate the varied terrain, which includes both steep ascents and gentle descents through historic villages that showcase East Lancashire’s rich industrial heritage. The event provides ample time with a generous ten-hour window from start at 8:00 AM until the finish line cut-off at 6:00 PM.
Safety is paramount; all runners are required to carry essential items such as full waterproof gear, maps and compasses, whistles, mugs for hot drinks, fully charged mobile phones, and appropriate footwear. Navigational skills will be tested but not overwhelming given the comprehensive support provided by organizers.
For those looking to make a weekend of it, accommodation recommendations are available upon request from event coordinators at runjmc.co.uk/panopticons/. The event also supports local charitable causes through donations made by participants and sponsors alike.
Join this inspiring journey that celebrates both nature’s beauty and the region's cultural heritage in one exhilarating ultra-run experience.
