The Rabid Raccoon 25K returns to Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 9th, 2027 as part of the Bad Beard Events series. The race begins at Laurel Point on Raccoon Mountain and covers a challenging trail course that changes direction annually to offer runners new experiences each year. On race morning in early January, temperatures typically hover around freezing with firm but slightly soft trails underfoot. Participants can expect cold conditions with clear skies and low UV index levels, making it an ideal day for running though the mountain's scenic paths. The terrain is rugged with plenty of elevation changes along Megawatt Trail, Grindstone Ridge, Lower Chunky, Live Wire 1 and 2, High Voltage, and Split Rock. The Rabid Raccoon has been a fixture in Chattanooga’s endurance racing calendar since its inception several years ago. It attracts hundreds of runners from across the region who come to challenge themselves on this unique course while supporting local sponsors including Fast Break, Gearhead Outfitters, Tucker Build, La Sportiva, Rossignol, Black Diamond, Roark, Turtlebox, Friction Prescription, Swiftwick, Teva, Peak Physical Therapy and Fitness, and Horton Design. All participants receive a finisher shirt along with post-race food and beverages. The Rabid Raccoon course winds through the trails of Raccoon Mountain on firm but slightly soft terrain that offers plenty of elevation gain. The route features multiple aid stations where runners can pick up granola bars, gummy bears, energy gels, chips, water, and Gatorade to fuel their journey around Megawatt Trail, Grindstone Ridge, Lower Chunky, Live Wire 1 and 2, High Voltage, and Split Rock. The course is designed for both competitive runners looking to set a personal best time as well as recreational athletes seeking an invigorating challenge. Race day typically sees clear skies with temperatures ranging from around freezing in the morning to slightly warmer by mid-morning when most finishers cross the line. Humidity levels are low and there’s no precipitation risk, making for ideal trail running conditions despite the chilly air. UV exposure is minimal due to early start times and overcast periods. The Rabid Raccoon 25K offers a single distance of 25 kilometers through challenging mountain terrain.

Early packet pickup takes place at Hello Monty on Main St in Chattanooga from January 8th at 4:00PM to 6:00PM EST. On race day, runners can pick up packets between 7:30AM and 8:15AM EST at the start/finish line area near Laurel Point parking lot. The race starts promptly at 8:30 AM from Raccoon Mountain Laurel Point in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Runners must bring their own hydration packs or handheld bottles as this is a cupless event. To reach the starting point, follow Brown's Ferry Road and Elder Mountain Road up to Raccoon Mountain Visitors' Center before continuing straight along single-lane roads until reaching Laurel Point.
