About the Event

Race The Light returns to Mothecombe on the picturesque Erme Estuary, offering runners two challenging options: an 8.5-mile classic race and a half marathon. Both routes feature unique tidal conditions that add an extra layer of excitement for participants.
The Classic Race starts at 13:15 PM from the estuary slipway and finishes high above the water's edge at SchoolhouseDevon, before descending to cross the River Erme twice. This race is a true test against both light and tide, with runners needing headlamps as they near the end of their journey.
The half marathon starts earlier at 12:45 PM, adding an extra dimension to the challenge by incorporating sections of the Classic route but also venturing onto the South West Coast Path for five miles. This scenic stretch offers stunning coastal views before returning inland and crossing the estuary a final time near Wonwell. With a strict three-hour cut-off at this point, runners must keep up their pace.
Both races are marked with clear signage throughout, ensuring that participants can focus on navigating the terrain rather than worrying about getting lost. First aid stations will be strategically placed along both routes to provide immediate assistance if needed. The finish line awaits all runners who complete these challenging courses, rewarding them with a bespoke Race The Light medal for their efforts.
Participants should note that dogs are not allowed during either race, ensuring an uninterrupted experience for everyone involved. Additionally, the option to purchase XCover is available to help mitigate any unforeseen circumstances that might prevent attendance on race day.
