Rombalds Romp, organized by North Leeds Fell Runners, invites runners of all levels to experience 13 kilometers (8.1 miles) of rugged terrain with an ascent of 370 meters (1214 feet). This British Mountain Running Association (BM) fell race is designed for beginners and seasoned trail enthusiasts alike. The route weaves through a diverse landscape, featuring rough rocky tracks and heathery paths that challenge even the most experienced runners. Approximately one mile of road up the back of the moor adds an element of change to this otherwise challenging course. The forest section offers intriguing terrain with tree roots often slippery when wet, making it essential for participants to navigate carefully. Runners should be prepared for a mix of conditions and terrain as they traverse through the varied landscape. A new clearance on the second section of forest means runners must watch out for old tree roots that can make footing tricky at times. The race starts and finishes along Keighley Road, just half a mile from Race HQ located at Keighley Gate Road (///those.exhaling.saucepan). Participants are advised to park in Darwin Gardens car park, which is about five minutes' walk away. For those relying on GPS systems, LS29 9JE will guide them to the nearest area; once this car park fills up, Wells Road and surrounding streets offer alternative parking options. Prize-giving takes place around midday at race HQ, with awards for the top three male and female finishers as well as age category winners in MV40, MV50, MV60, FV40, FV50, and FV60. Each runner is eligible to receive only one prize. As a Fell Race sanctioned by the British Mountain Running Association (BM), all participants are required to carry mandatory kit including waterproof jacket with taped seams and integrated hood, waterproof trousers, hat, gloves, compass, and whistle. These items ensure safety in varying weather conditions that may arise during the event. Rombalds Romp promises a thrilling experience for runners seeking adventure on challenging terrain while enjoying the scenic beauty of North Leeds' countryside. Participants are encouraged to check with race organizers for any potential adjustments to mandatory kit requirements based on expected weather and trail conditions.
