Run Like a Haggis MapRun - SJC

Nestled within Weardale, just a short drive from major cities like Durham, Newcastle, Darlington, and Penrith, St John’s Chapel hosts an engaging navigation score event. Participants can choose between 60-minute, 90-minute, or 120-minute course options, all of which challenge them to visit as many checkpoints as possible within the allotted time using the MapRun app on their smartphones.
The courses are designed for runners, joggers, and walkers alike, weaving through a network of public rights of way and open access land. This event is particularly welcoming for newcomers, offering an accessible introduction to navigation events with routes suitable for all skill levels.
Registration takes place at Barrington Hall on the village green in St John’s Chapel (DL13 1QB), where What3Words coordinates enough.rainbow.nagging are provided for precise location guidance. Participants can register from 10am, and start times range between 10am to noon, with all courses closing at 2pm.
Parking is available in the village and along roads to the east of it; participants are reminded to park responsibly and considerately. Public toilets are conveniently located for those who need them during their adventure.
Upon completion, runners can enjoy a well-deserved cake and hot drink as part of their entry fee, provided at the finish line where they can discuss their routes and maps with fellow competitors over refreshments.
