About the Event

Sardin Run invites trail runners to explore the rugged beauty of the Karst region along the Adriatic coast near Trieste. This unique race takes place against an awe-inspiring backdrop, where sheer cliffs meet the sea and ancient Roman temples lie beneath layers of history. The route winds through pine forests scented with resin, past bilingual villages that speak to a rich cultural heritage.
The course follows the Rilke Path, named after the poet who composed his famous Duino Elegies here amidst the stunning natural scenery. Runners will cross trenches from World War I and navigate Mount Ermada’s natural fortress before reaching the border with Slovenia along CAI path 79. This historic stretch commemorates patrols that once walked a double stone curb to avoid entering Yugoslavia.
The race culminates at Isola del Villaggio del Pescatore, where participants finish their journey by the sea. The forty-kilometre course offers varied terrain, from steep descents into holm oak forests to ascents through white limestone ridges cooled by the Bora breeze. Wild sage thrives in this landscape, adding vibrant hues and fragrances.
Sardin Run is designed for runners of all levels, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience that immerses participants in thousands of years of history. The race not only celebrates nature but also honors the rich cultural tapestry woven into every step along the trail.
