SATURN - Scare Bear Run 2026 - North

The race takes place at Durham Amateur Rowing Club in Old Elvet, offering runners and walkers alike the flexibility to choose their own distance within the scenic loop around the river. The course spans from a minimum of 3 kilometers up to an ultra-distance option that extends well beyond marathon length, making it accessible for all levels of experience.
The route itself is a picturesque trail run with stunning views of Durham Cathedral, providing both beauty and challenge as you navigate through the soft terrain along the water's edge. With fully signed routes ensuring ease of navigation, this event focuses on enjoying the journey rather than worrying about directions.
Upon crossing the finish line after completing at least 3 kilometers, participants will be rewarded with a themed medal that captures the essence of the Scare Bear Run – perfect for collectors and casual runners alike. Additionally, all finishers receive a goody bag filled with treats to celebrate their achievement, including vegan-friendly options tailored specifically for dietary preferences.
For those aiming higher, distance pins are available as an extra recognition for running half-marathon distances or beyond. These pins come attached directly onto your medal ribbon, marking significant milestones like the 50km and ultra-distance feats.
Throughout the event, a well-stocked aid station at the start/finish line ensures that participants stay hydrated and fueled with snacks such as crisps, cheese, fruit, cookies, and more – all prepared to cater to various dietary needs including vegan options.
Special recognitions are also given for milestone races; notify us if this race marks your 50th, 99th, or any other significant number in your running journey. You'll receive a personalized finisher’s bib with the date and occasion inscribed.
Race day amenities include changing facilities and toilets at Race HQ, along with secure storage options for personal items near the start/finish area (though participants are advised to keep valuables close). Free on-street parking is available nearby or pay-and-display city center spots can be utilized for convenience.
As part of our commitment to inclusivity and safety, we adhere strictly to UK Athletics guidelines regarding age restrictions and distances covered by young runners. We also encourage all participants to wear headphones responsibly during the event while being mindful of other path users.
