Immerse yourself in one of Britain's most ancient and breathtaking landscapes with the Summits of the North York Moors Ultra, an epic 120-mile journey through the heart of the North York Moors National Park. This challenging race takes you over the park’s ten highest peaks and along historic paths like the Cleveland Way, Esk Valley Walk, and Lyke Wake Walk. The route is a blend of expansive views and rugged terrain, offering both clear tracks for steady pacing and ascents that challenge even the most seasoned runners. You'll traverse landscapes shaped by millions of years of geological activity, passing through Bronze Age earthworks, medieval boundary stones, ancient burial sites, and mysterious standing crosses—each marking chapters in this land’s rich history. Starting at Goathland village hall early Saturday morning, you’ll embark on a journey that combines physical endurance with historical immersion. The race is carefully organized to ensure safety while preserving the essence of self-reliance; runners are supported by designated checkpoints where they can rest and refuel, but otherwise must rely solely on their own resources. Key highlights include indoor checkpoint stops at approximately 40 and 80 miles, providing hot beverages, snacks like Super Noodles and jacket potatoes (including vegan options), and a place to catch some sleep if needed. Participants are encouraged to carry essential gear such as waterproof clothing, an emergency bivvy bag, and navigation tools like a map and compass. The event concludes on Sunday evening with warm food, drinks, and the camaraderie of fellow runners at Goathland village hall—once the filming location for the popular TV show "Heartbeat." All finishers receive a bespoke medal to commemorate their achievement. With only 70 spots available, this race offers an intimate experience that respects both nature’s beauty and its challenges. It is not just about reaching the summit but also about embracing the journey through time and terrain.
