SOO 200

About the Event

The SOO 200 offers an unparalleled adventure through the rugged terrain of Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma, celebrating both the natural beauty and cultural significance of Eastern Canada's first-ever 200-mile ultramarathon. This challenging event is not just a race but also a sister to The Divide 200, drawing runners from across North America for an unforgettable experience.
Competitors will navigate through diverse landscapes including single track trails, double tracks, dirt roads, cross-country routes, and even some bushwhacking sections that add an element of surprise. While the course is largely prescribed, participants should be prepared to engage in a bit of route-finding due to the unpredictable nature of certain areas.
The race offers multiple distance options: besides the flagship 200-mile event, there are now opportunities for runners to tackle a 100-miler or take on the scenic 50k course. All distances begin at Stokely Creek Lodge and wind through stunning natural settings that showcase the Canadian Shield's unique beauty.
Safety is paramount in this challenging environment; participants in the 200-mile race are required to carry a Garmin inReach device supplied by Sinister Sports for both navigation assistance and emergency communication purposes. Checkpoints, spaced approximately every 20 to 40 kilometers along the route, provide essential support throughout the event.
For those interested in participating in the full 200-miler distance, registration offers flexibility with an upfront payment or a two-part installment plan: half of the entry fee is due upon signing up, securing your spot; the remaining balance must be paid by May 22. A late-payment option exists after this date but comes with a 10% surcharge.
The SOO 200 takes place on land that holds deep cultural significance for Indigenous communities, including the Anishnaabeg peoples of Batchewana and Garden River First Nations as well as Métis People. Participants are invited to learn about and respect this historic meeting ground known locally as Baawaating.
For more information and updates leading up to race day, visit the official website or join the SOO 200 group on Facebook for real-time announcements and insights into what makes this event truly unique among ultramarathons.
