St Andrews West Sands 5k

University of St Andrews Athletics and Cross Country presents the annual St Andrews West Sands 5k, set to take place on October 10th, 2026. This iconic beach race invites runners from all backgrounds and abilities to experience one of Scotland's most picturesque coastal landscapes.
The event begins at 9:00am sharp along the famous West Sands beach in St Andrews, Fife (nearest postcode KY16 9XL). Participants will navigate a challenging yet rewarding 5km out-and-back course that winds through seemingly endless stretches of sand. The race promises to be an invigorating experience with its brisk October weather and strong sea breezes sweeping directly from Norway.
Registration for the St Andrews West Sands 5k is strictly online, limited to just 150 participants due to space constraints on the beach. Entry fees are £20 for non-students and £15 for current UK university students; however, a £2 levy applies for those who aren't members of Scottish Athletics.
Parking is available along West Sands Road with ample grassy areas nearby, but runners must park courteously without obstructing access to other road users. Registration will take place on the day from 8:00am at the Blown Away Beach Hut alongside the race start line where participants can collect their numbers and receive any necessary instructions.
Public toilets are conveniently located near registration for those needing a pre-race pit stop, but there are no changing facilities available. Therefore, all runners should arrive dressed and ready to tackle the challenging sand conditions head-on.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers after manual timing by race officials. Results will be posted as soon as possible following the event conclusion.

Minimum participant age is set at 11 years old. Entries close on Thursday, October 8th, with refunds available only if your spot can be transferred to another runner before the deadline minus a £1 processing fee.
