Steps for Change: #EndOverdose

About the Event

The 2nd Annual Steps for Change: #EndOverdose fundraising run returns to Stayner, Ontario on August 15th. The event will begin at the picturesque Stayner Village Park, located off Main Street near the historic Stone Church and just a stone’s throw from Lake Huron's shoreline. This family-friendly route offers scenic views of the park as well as its charming surroundings.
The atmosphere on race morning is one of unity and purpose; participants can expect to see familiar faces from the local community mingling with newcomers, all united in their commitment to ending overdose through awareness and support. The event has grown significantly since its inception, attracting a diverse mix of runners, walkers, volunteers, and supporters each year.
This run serves as more than just an athletic challenge; it’s a powerful statement against stigma and a heartfelt tribute to those lost to addiction. For over two years now, Steps for Change: #EndOverdose has brought together families, friends, service providers, and local businesses in Stayner to make a difference locally.
The course venue is the Stayner Village Park, offering a family-friendly route that caters to all ages and fitness levels. The run will start at 7 AM sharp from the main entrance of the park, which features lush greenery and winding paths leading through the forested area towards the lake. Participants can expect an out-and-back layout with notable features such as the historic Stone Church, visible during certain parts of the course.
The finish line is marked by a banner near the village center just steps away from the Lake Huron shoreline. Along the route, there will be several aid stations where participants can grab water or other refreshments if needed. The elevation changes are minimal, ensuring a manageable experience for all runners and walkers. Notable features include the historic Stone Church visible halfway through.
On race day, expect temperatures in the mid-20s Celsius with humidity levels around 73%, creating an environment that feels comfortably warm but not too hot. The average wind speed is about 10 km/h which can make for a slightly cooler breeze on the exposed sections of the course.
