About the Event
Welcome to the Dunoon Ultra Marathon, celebrating ten years of adventure on Scotland’s breathtaking trails! This iconic race invites runners from all walks of life to push their limits and embrace unforgettable challenges alongside a vibrant community. The 2024 edition returns to its scenic home around Loch Eck, offering an awe-inspiring loop that showcases some of the most stunning natural beauty in Argyll. Spanning 52.22 kilometers (32.45 miles) with nearly 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) of elevation gain, this route features a diverse landscape including rolling hills, steep climbs, exhilarating descents, and brief road sections. Runners will be treated to breathtaking views from both the East and West shores of Loch Eck, followed by panoramic vistas over Holy Loch and Firth of Clyde. For those opting for the relay format, teams can tackle three distinct legs: 20.16 km (12.53 miles) with 634 meters (2,080 feet), 16.13 km (10.02 miles) with 189 meters (620 feet), and a final leg of 16.7 kilometers (10.38 miles) with 288 meters (945 feet). All relay teams must ensure they reach Checkpoint 2 by 15:30 hours, six and a half hours after the start. The race begins at Benmore Gardens in Dunoon at 09:00, offering limited parking but free bus transport from Dunoon Pier. The route is fully signposted with marshals providing guidance throughout. Two checkpoints offer refreshments and drop bag access to ensure runners are well-supported on their journey. Participants will enjoy a range of amenities upon crossing the finish line at Dunoon Pier, including race t-shirts (if purchased before entry closes), medals, custom buff bands, post-race massages, and more. The event also features extra festivities and commemorative merchandise to mark this milestone anniversary.
