Prepare to embark on an unforgettable adventure through the rugged beauty of Dartmoor National Park. Returning for its second year, the Dartmoor Marathon offers a challenging yet rewarding experience that has earned praise from runners eager to explore one of Britain’s most captivating landscapes.
The race kicks off and concludes in Tavistock, a historic market town celebrated as the birthplace of Sir Francis Drake. From there, participants will traverse through the untamed wilderness of Dartmoor, known for its dramatic moors, ancient stone circles, and vast expanses of open land. This year’s route follows an anticlockwise path, providing runners with panoramic views at every turn.
As competitors navigate the course, they’ll encounter several notable landmarks that add to the race's allure. The notorious Dartmoor Prison stands as a testament to the area’s rich history, while serene Burrator Reservoir offers a striking contrast against the rugged terrain. No visit to Dartmoor would be complete without spotting one of its iconic Dartmoor Ponies grazing along the route.
Registration for this event opens soon, with runners set to take their places on Sunday, 11th April 2027. This date marks your opportunity to participate in what many consider to be the most scenic marathon in the United Kingdom.
