The Kenny Phillips 10 Mile Road Race around Cumbrae
About the Event
Millport Island 10 Mile Challenge Set for Sunday, September 20th, 2026, the Millport Island 10 Mile Challenge invites runners to explore one of Scotland's most picturesque and serene locations. This certified race is a Scottish Athletics licensed event conducted under UK Athletics rules and promises an unforgettable experience on the B896 road that encircles the island in an anti-clockwise direction. Registration takes place at Garrison House, Millport from 12:30 PM onwards, with the race starting promptly at 2:00 PM. Perfect Timing will be managing the timing for this event; participants are advised to arrive early to collect their race numbers and ensure a smooth start to the day. The course is predominantly flat but features an intriguing finale – a slight incline just before crossing the finish line, adding a unique challenge to what might otherwise seem like a straightforward run. The island's tranquil setting offers runners breathtaking views of the surrounding sea and coastline as they make their way around this scenic 10-mile loop. Participants are encouraged to arrive by ferry from Largs Pier; CalMac ferries provide regular services that take approximately ten minutes, with buses connecting directly to Millport upon arrival for added convenience. After completing the race, runners will be greeted with free refreshments and a medal at the finish line. Changing facilities and toilets are available: men can change in the tbc while women have access to the Drop-in Centre on College Street. This event is part of the Ayrshire 10 Mile Championship, offering medals for all competitors who cross the finish line. Age group categories include male divisions from ages 18-39 and above, as well as female divisions starting at age 18 up through to those aged 70 or older. Teams can also compete in both men's (first team of four) and women’s (first team of three) categories, but it is important for runners not affiliated with a club to register accordingly if they wish their times to count towards the team prize. Please note that UK Athletics rules strictly prohibit headphones during the race due to health and safety concerns; ignoring this rule may result in disqualification. Entries close on September 14th or when capacity is reached, so early registration is recommended. No refunds or transfers will be given under any circumstances, including day-of entries. The Millport Island 10 Mile Challenge offers a blend of scenic beauty, competitive spirit, and community atmosphere that makes it a must-attend event for runners across Scotland.
