The Wensleydale Wedge

About the Event

Experience the rugged beauty of North Yorkshire with this winter challenge, exclusively open to LDWA members until October 1st when general entries will be available. The route spans an impressive 24-mile journey through winding paths and scenic landscapes over a challenging ten-hour period, culminating in a strict cut-off time at Carperby checkpoint by 4 PM.
This event is designed for seasoned adventurers who are prepared to navigate the terrain using only public rights of way without any provided route description. Participants must come equipped with essential items such as an OS Outdoor Leisure Sheet 30 map, whistle, compass, waterproof gear, a first-aid kit, survival blanket or bag, head torch, and emergency rations.
The event offers numerous checkpoints along the way where you can replenish your energy with refreshments and enjoy hot meals at designated stops. A vegan option is available upon request, but please notify organizers in advance of any dietary restrictions to ensure a smooth experience for all participants.
With a maximum entry limit of 130 intrepid souls, this event fills up quickly, so be sure to secure your spot before November 12th or when the cap is reached. No on-the-day entries will be accepted, ensuring that organizers can manage resources effectively and provide the best possible experience for all participants.
Parking near Bainbridge village is limited, but ample space is available along the road between Askrigg and Bainbridge, as well as in Askrigg Village itself. Follow marshals' instructions to ensure you park safely and arrive at Bainbridge on time for registration starting from 6:45 AM sharp.
The route begins and ends at the charming Bainbridge Village Hall (GR933039), with intermediate checkpoints scattered across stunning locations like Semerwater Bridge, Thoralby village hall, Freeholder's Wood, and Low Thoresby. Each checkpoint offers unique opportunities to rest, refuel, or simply take in the breathtaking scenery.
Remember to bring your own mug for refreshments along the way and join us on this unforgettable winter adventure through North Yorkshire’s picturesque countryside.
Note: No dogs are allowed at any point during the event.
