Tour of Pendle The Tour of Pendle is an exhilarating AL Fell Race that spans a challenging distance of 27 kilometers (16.8 miles) and ascends to a formidable elevation gain of 1,473 meters (4,833 feet). This race demands both experience and navigational prowess; local knowledge can be particularly advantageous as competitors traverse rugged terrain. Organized under the auspices of the Fell Runners Association (FRA), this event adheres strictly to FRA rules. Participants must equip themselves with essential items such as a waterproof, seam-taped body cover complete with an integrated hood, gloves and hat for warmth, a detailed map of the course, a compass, a whistle, and emergency food supplies. Navigation is solely based on traditional methods; GPS devices are not permitted to ensure adherence to FRA guidelines. The race commences promptly at 10:15 am from near the Village Hall in Barley, with an initial head count starting around 10:00 am approximately 30 meters away from the hall and just 20 meters before the start line. Competitors face a strict cut-off time of one hour and fifty minutes at Checkpoint (CP) 4. A second critical checkpoint is located at CP6, which marks the memorial cairn above Ashendean Clough; this point enforces an additional cut-off two hours and forty-five minutes after the start. If you are unable to complete the full course within five hours under normal November conditions, it's unlikely that you will meet the deadline for CP6. In case of failing to reach either CP4 or CP6 before their respective deadlines, participants must report back to Barley Village Hall where they can inform a marshal about retiring from the race and surrendering their number. Entry fees are £25 if spots remain available on the day; however, it is recommended that interested runners secure their place early. Race maps will be updated and made available for purchase at Pete Bland Sports starting July 1st, ensuring all participants have access to accurate course information well before race day.
