The Wahoo First Responders 5th Annual – “Run with a Cop, Not from One” returns to Smith Park in Wahoo, Nebraska on August 1st. The race offers both a 1 mi walk and a five-kilometer run for participants.
Smith Park is nestled at the intersection of East 4th Street, just off downtown Wahoo's bustling main street. On race morning, the air feels crisp early in the day as runners gather to start their journey through this picturesque park. The setting exudes community spirit with its lush greenery and well-maintained pathways leading up to the starting line.
Since its inception five years ago, the event has been a cornerstone of Wahoo’s annual calendar, bringing together residents and visitors alike in support of local first responders. Over 200 participants have run through Smith Park each year, raising funds for scholarships that benefit area students pursuing careers in public safety.
The course venue is a mix of paved paths and gravel trails, providing a challenging yet rewarding experience for runners. The race begins at the park entrance on East 4th Street, with a flat start leading into a loop around the central lake before heading back towards the finish line. Participants can expect to see familiar faces from the local police department stationed along the course as partners and spectators.
