Water Temperature Guidelines:
FINA’s Open Water Swim rules tell us that the lower limit for water temperature (measured 1 m below the surface) is 16 degrees C (60.8 F). If the water temperature is lower, the event may be shortened or canceled. This figure of 16 degrees C is based on the fact that both male and female swimmers will not experience dangerous declines in body temperature in water temperatures of 16 degrees C or higher when swimming at typical open water race speeds.

The minimum water temperature at which wetsuits are optional is 14 degrees C (57.2 degrees F)
At temperatures less than 12 degrees C (53.6 degrees F) the swim will be canceled.

Weather:
In the case of event cancellation due to public safety, inclement weather, unsafe waters or some other unforeseen power at be due to tide schedules the event will not be rescheduled.

Refunds: We understand life happens, injuries occur and things may come up. We’ve implemented a refund, defur and transfer policy for FREE through July 1st. After 7/1 there are no refunds, and deferments/transfers will incur a $10 admin fee. In the case of event cancellation due to public safety, inclement weather or some other unforeseen power at be, the event will be canceled or rescheduled if possible.

About Salem

Learn more about the host city, Salem.

Scenic view of

A charming New England seaside destination, Salem offers visitors the requisite bevy of enthralling elements: a world-class museum, compelling oceanfront and maritime history, quirky shops and tempting restaurants. They're all here and vying for your attention. However, one event in Salem's 400-year history looms above all else—the Salem witch trials. One of the most notorious cases of mass hysteria, the trials saw over 200 people charged with witchcraft, 25 of whom died as a direct result. Try as they might, the city was never able to memory hole the events of 1692. So eventually they changed tack, leaning into the lore of witches and magic. Today the "Witch City" plasters its civic institutions with witch silhouettes, they even built a baseball diamond atop Gallows Hill Park. The plan seems to have worked, tourists have responded and business is up. You know what they say, "time heals all wounds".
