About the Event

The YYC Sub Ultra Trail Run returns to Calgary, Alberta on August 30th, offering runners of all levels a thrilling trail adventure through the city's natural landscapes.
In downtown Calgary’s Riverbend Park, runners will start their journey early morning under clear skies. The park’s rolling hills and lush forest paths provide an ideal setting for both seasoned and first-time participants to enjoy the sub-ultra distance. This year marks its fifth run, with over 1000 participants expected, raising funds for local trail maintenance.
The race offers a variety of distances: from the challenging 34km Sub Ultra Trail Run suitable for experienced runners, to the 6.8km and 2km options perfect for first-timers or families looking to participate together. Each distance provides unique challenges, with steep ascents and winding trails that showcase Calgary’s natural beauty.
The race starts at 7am sharp from Riverbend Park's central entrance, near the city’s popular Farmer’s Market Plaza. The route will include a mix of rocky paths and well-maintained trails, offering runners stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Aid stations are strategically placed along the course to ensure hydration and nutrition support for all participants.
Race morning temperatures hover around 17°C, with comfortable conditions expected through much of the day. The average wind speed is a mild 9 km/h, making it an ideal race day in early August. Runners should be prepared for some humidity at 64.5%, but overall, the weather promises to be pleasant and conducive to running.

Registration can be done through the YYC Sub Ultra Trail Run event page on Raceroster.com for $109.80 for the 17km distances, $34.40 for the 2km kids run, or $93.64 for the 6.8km distance. Participants are encouraged to register early as spots fill quickly.
Bibs will be available at Calgary Running Club on August 25th from 1pm onwards. Runners must bring a valid ID and pay any outstanding fees if applicable before picking up their bibs.
The start location is Riverbend Park, near the Farmer’s Market Plaza in downtown Calgary. The race welcomes runners aged 13 and above to participate. First-timers are advised to arrive early for parking and pre-race warm-up sessions.
