Charity Trail 'Zach's Heavenly Steps'
Hosted by The Zach Willsher Pub starting from 10:30am, this unique charity walk/jog/run invites runners and walkers of all abilities to explore the scenic trails around Benfleet. Participants can choose between two undulating routes—5.7 miles or approximately 12 miles—and set off at any time during a three-hour window from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm.
The event supports Macmillan Cancer Support, one of the UK's leading cancer care charities. Instead of a traditional mass start and marked route, participants receive detailed written instructions upon arrival. There are no marshals along the way, so runners navigate independently using their own timing devices to record their start and finish times.
The trail takes you through charming parks and woodlands surrounding Benfleet, offering an immersive experience in nature where trees provide a serene backdrop and natural sounds fill the air. The route includes roads, tracks, footpaths, and bridleways, providing varied terrain that challenges runners while allowing them to connect with their surroundings.
A water station is available at approximately 6 miles for those on the longer course; however, there are no facilities along the shorter route. Participants should wear footwear suitable for off-road running to ensure they can safely navigate the undulating paths.
All finishers will receive a £3 voucher redeemable against purchases from The Zach Willsher's menu. Final safety information and updates will be sent via email a few days before the event, ensuring everyone stays informed about any changes that may affect their experience.
The venue is located at 170-180 Church Road, Benfleet, Essex SS7 4PL. Please note there are strict rules regarding muddy trail shoes—no such footwear should be worn inside The Zach Willsher Pub to protect the premises. Parking is available on a first-come-first-served basis both at and around the pub.
This event adheres to UK Athletics guidelines under TRA Permit Number 8425, ensuring all participants enjoy a safe and enjoyable experience while raising funds for an important cause.
