ACORN Duncan Macfarlane Race "The Dunky"

The Dunky is an annual celebration of running heritage and natural beauty, honoring Duncan Macfarlane, a revered runner who was part of Victoria Park AC alongside Scottish legend Andy Forbes. Born on January 14th, 1921, near Balloch, Scotland, Macfarlane's legacy continues to inspire the community with his dedication to athletics and love for nature.
For its fifth year, The Dunky is set in Mugdock Country Park, a place steeped in history and natural splendor. This scenic route covers two laps of 7.5 kilometers each through the park’s winding trails, offering runners breathtaking views that change throughout the seasons. Participants will pass by historic castles, serene lochs, and remnants from World War II, providing an immersive experience rich with local lore.
Registration begins at Mugdock Country Park Visitor Centre on race day, starting promptly at 8:40 AM for a 9:30 AM start time. The event supports the Woodland Trust by making donations that can be supplemented during entry registration. Additionally, funds are donated to the Chris Smith Memorial Fund, which aids in advancing running sports through grant-based initiatives.
Inclusions with your race fee include:
- A contribution towards park maintenance and upkeep
- Exclusive access for the first 70 cars to an overflow carpark (please consider carpooling)
- Fully waymarked and marshalled course guidance
- Qualified medical support on site
- Refreshments at the finish line
Commemorative merchandise, such as event-specific t-shirts and buffs, is available for purchase during registration.
Awards are given out in various categories:
- Overall male and female winners receive Migo Sports vouchers worth £35 (1st), £25 (2nd), and £15 (3rd)
- Age category awards include V40, V50, V60, and V70 for the first place winner with an entry to a future Acorn Trails event
- Winners are announced on the official Acorn Trails website
