ACORN Sandhead 10

The Sandhead 10 is an exhilarating ten-mile multi-terrain race that winds its way from picturesque Sandhead to bustling Stranraer. Set for Sunday, September 13th, this challenging yet rewarding course offers a unique blend of coastal beauty and varied terrain.
Race Day kicks off at 10:30 AM sharp in front of the Tigh Na Mara Hotel in Sandhead. Participants will enjoy complimentary bus travel from Stranraer to the start line for those who indicate their need during sign-up, ensuring everyone has an equal chance to make it on time.
The entry fee is £19.50 with a small additional charge for non-ARC affiliated runners. The race welcomes all abilities but sets a 4-hour cut-off mark to ensure safety and support for volunteers traveling from afar.
As you embark on the Sandhead 10, anticipate stunning vistas along Scotland’s Great Trails – specifically, the Mull of Galloway Trail. Starting with an invigorating run alongside Luce Bay's sandy shores, runners will then ascend onto dunes offering panoramic views across the beach. The route continues inland through tranquil back roads and past picturesque farm fields before weaving into Stranraer via a short stretch along the Southern Upland Way.
Stranraer’s welcoming waterfront provides an ideal finish line backdrop with its marina and old ferry terminal, culminating in a memorable sprint down the pier to cross the finish. Along the way, water stations are placed at approximately five-kilometer intervals, ensuring runners stay hydrated throughout their journey.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants will be greeted by enthusiastic volunteers offering refreshments and snacks as well as an array of goodies including eco-friendly medals and goody bags filled with surprises from sponsors like Migo Sports. Additionally, top performers can look forward to podium prizes and Galloway cheese spot awards.
The event’s charitable aspect is a standout feature, supporting two local initiatives: the Better Lives Partnership Stranraer and the Stranraer Youth Pantry. Each registration includes a £1 donation towards these causes, with additional options for further contributions during sign-up.
