The Isle of Man is set to host its inaugural Backyard Ultra race, an endurance challenge unlike any other. This unique format sees runners tackle a 4.167-mile loop every hour until only one competitor remains standing. Participants must complete the loop within each designated hour window in order to continue and advance into subsequent hours. The event unfolds at Race HQ where competitors gather for their hourly starts, pushing themselves through rugged terrain that tests both physical stamina and mental fortitude. The race continues around the clock as runners face increasing fatigue and dwindling daylight until one individual emerges victorious after all others have dropped out or fallen behind. In addition to the thrill of competition, participants receive a comprehensive package including entry into the race, electronic timing for precise results, an event T-shirt commemorating their participation, overall and category prizes for top performers, milestone awards recognizing completion of significant distances like 100 miles, as well as free professional photos capturing memorable moments from throughout the day. Competitors can also opt to purchase XCover insurance which provides a refund should unforeseen circumstances prevent them from attending. Prizes are awarded across various categories such as overall winner (the last person standing), second place finisher known as "Assist," and most laps completed by both male and female runners, including age group distinctions for 18-29, 30-49, and those aged 50+. Additionally, team awards are given to groups of up to four members who accumulate the highest number of laps collectively. The Backyard Ultra event promises an unforgettable experience on the Isle of Man with its scenic landscapes and challenging course layout. Runners will be immersed in a community atmosphere filled with support from fellow participants and spectators alike while pushing their limits against time itself. Participants should prepare for all conditions as this race continues around the clock, offering them the chance to achieve remarkable feats of endurance and camaraderie on one of Britain’s most picturesque islands.
