Brampton hosts an exciting urban orienteering adventure as part of the North West Urban League (NWUL), welcoming runners and enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned competitor or just starting out, this event offers something for everyone. Newcomers to orienteering can join in groups and simply enter one person with additional maps available at £1 each per participant. Dibber hire is free but must be returned; otherwise, there's a £30 charge if it’s not brought back. Pre-ordering dibbers isn’t necessary as they are also available on the day. The event takes place in Brampton Community Centre (CA8 1BX), where parking and registration will occur. The terrain features an urban landscape with some parkland, providing a dynamic mix of environments to navigate through. Competitors can choose from six different courses: - Course 1: A challenging route at 8.7km long with a climb of 90m for Open Men. - Course 2: At 7.9km and 65m elevation gain, this course caters to Veteran Men (40+), Supervet Men (55+), and both open and veteran women categories. - Course 3: A slightly shorter route at 6.6km with a climb of 70m for Ultravet Men (65+) and Supervet Women (55+). - Course 4: Ideal for the more mature competitors, this course is just 4.0km long and climbs only 50m. - Course 5: For younger participants aged under 16, with a distance of 3.4km and an elevation gain of 35m. - Course 6: The shortest route at 1.7km for the youngest competitors (under 12), offering an easy introduction to orienteering. All courses are designed to provide optimal distances that suit each category, ensuring a fair challenge across all age groups and abilities. Important rules apply regarding young participants: - All Young Juniors must be accompanied or shadowed by an adult. - Those aged under 16 but older than the junior categories can run unaccompanied only on Course 5 or 6. Start times range from 10:30am to 12:30pm, with starts located about a 400m walk away from the community centre. The finish line is just around 100m back towards the event hub. Maps are available for day-of registration as long as they remain in stock. For more information and detailed rules, visit the Brampton League website. Join us at this engaging urban orienteering experience that promises a mix of city streets and green spaces, perfect for all levels of competitors looking to test their navigation skills amidst the vibrant surroundings of Brampton.
