Canalathon-Ultra Running Festival

Running enthusiasts and long-distance aficionados, prepare for an unforgettable journey along the picturesque Rochdale Canal. The Canalathon-Ultra Running Festival invites you to immerse yourself in Yorkshire & Lancashire's serene landscapes with four distinct race options: a grueling 100km challenge, a half-day adventure at 50km, a scenic Half Marathon, and a shorter yet equally captivating 10km route.
The 100km course is an out-and-back trek from Sowerby Bridge, tracing the well-maintained towpaths of the Rochdale Canal. This flat and smooth path offers runners minimal elevation changes, making it ideal for setting personal bests over ultra distances. The 50km race begins in Ancoats and concludes at Sowerby Bridge after traversing the entire length of the canal.
For those who prefer a shorter but no less scenic route, the Half Marathon starts near Todmorden's Summit and finishes back in Sowerby Bridge. Meanwhile, both the 10km and 5km races start and finish within the charming town itself, providing an intimate experience for runners and spectators alike.
While the majority of the course is on hard surfaces that are typically dry, it’s recommended to wear trail running shoes due to potential mud patches along parts of the towpath. Aid stations will be strategically placed throughout each route to keep you fueled and hydrated as you make your way through this historic waterway.
The Race HQ and finish line for all events are located at The Sowerby Bridge Cricket Club, offering a central hub where participants can rest, refuel, and celebrate their achievements with fellow runners. This event presents the unique opportunity to experience fast-paced miles over ultra distances without the need for extensive navigation or arduous climbs.
