CHOPWELL WOODS CHRISTMAS TRAIL RACES

Chopwell Woods Christmas Trail Runs invites runners of all ages to celebrate the holiday season with a scenic run through the enchanting Chopwell Wood. Located just outside Gateshead and managed by Forestry England, this 360-hectare woodland offers a serene setting for both seasoned athletes and families alike.
Participants can choose from three exciting distances: a family-friendly one-mile route designed specifically for children aged 3 to 11 (adults run free with each child), a challenging four-mile course suitable for runners over the age of 11, or an eight-mile trek reserved for those aged 16 and older. Each trail winds through diverse terrain, featuring gentle hills and lush forests that make this event truly unforgettable.
The festivities kick off at 9:30 AM with the family mile, followed by the four-mile run starting at 10:00 AM and the eight-mile race beginning at 10:20 AM. All participants will enjoy live chip-timing provided by Timing Up North to ensure accurate results, while finishers of both longer races receive a commemorative medal, event merchandise, mince pies, chocolates, and refreshments.
For those who prefer to run with their canine companions, Chopwell Woods Christmas Trail Runs is pet-friendly, allowing one dog per runner. The event also features an optional T-shirt purchase for £14, providing runners with a keepsake from this special occasion.
Parking at the venue is free but limited, so carpooling or walking to the site is recommended to ensure space availability. This annual tradition often sells out quickly, making early registration essential for those looking to secure their spot in this cherished holiday event.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, SCOTT Sports will be on hand offering a shoe demo experience where runners can test out the latest trail running shoes from the brand's lineup. Early arrival is advised as these demos are given on a first-come, first-served basis.
Proceeds and donations collected during this year’s event will benefit Daft As A Brush Charity, which provides free transportation for cancer patients traveling to their medical treatments through its fleet of ambulances staffed by dedicated volunteers. By participating in the Chopwell Woods Christmas Trail Runs, runners contribute directly to supporting those undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
