The Cumbrian Traverse invites endurance runners to navigate through some of England's most breathtaking landscapes. Starting at Broughton Mills in Dunnerdale and finishing in Keswick, this challenging route winds its way across the heart of the Lake District, traversing 21 fells (summits) over a distance of 50km with an impressive ascent of 3,500 meters. Participants will encounter iconic peaks such as Great Stickle, Stickle Pike, and The Old Man of Coniston, each offering unique challenges and stunning views. This route is designed to test the limits of even seasoned runners, who must balance walking steep ascents with a steady pace over rugged terrain. Ian Stewart Coaching, based in the Lake District, will be guiding this event. With extensive experience leading similar routes like the Welsh 3000 challenge for more than two decades, Ian offers unparalleled knowledge and support to ensure participants have an enriching and safe journey through the park's diverse landscape. To prepare adequately for the Cumbrian Traverse, it is recommended that runners have completed a challenging event such as the Welsh 3000s over two days or one of our rigorous 50km events. The pace will be moderate to accommodate all participants but requires walking during technical sections and steep climbs. Due to the demanding nature of this course and the need for close supervision, spots are limited. For those who wish to secure their place while minimizing risk, XCover is available as an option to provide a refund in case unforeseen circumstances prevent attendance. The Cumbrian Traverse promises not only a test of physical endurance but also a rewarding exploration of one of Britain's most beloved natural parks.

About Keswick
Learn more about the host city, Keswick.
Keswick is the northern tourist hub of the Lake District National Park and is a favourite base for serious walkers and climbers, artists and photographers, and anyone who enjoys mountain and lake scenery. A thriving town of individual shops, including many selling outdoor equipment, art galleries, delis, cafes, restaurants and pubs, Keswick is a great place to collapse at the end of a long walk and eat a hearty meal. It also has many attractions to occupy visitors on a rainy day when heading up into the hills is not the thing to do.
