Join Irvine Running Club for their annual Jim Young Marymass 10k race on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026. This year’s event promises to be a highlight of the Scottish running calendar with its scenic route and exciting atmosphere.
The race is sponsored by local businesses including Brodie Engineering, Vanilla Joe's, Specsavers, and SimpsInns, along with support from the Scottish Maritime Museum for registration facilities. The 10k course has been officially measured under UK Athletics rules and certified as a Scottish Athletics Licensed Event (No. ES015143), making it part of the Ayrshire Harriers 10k Championship.
Registration closes on August 12th, with limited spots available for up to 450 runners. Entry fees are £17 for members of Scottish Athletics and £20 for non-members who must provide their six-digit SA number (e.g., SA123456). No day-of entries will be accepted, so secure your place early as the event was at full capacity last year.
The race begins on Montgomery Lane in Irvine and concludes near the old Magnum car park by the beach. Participants can expect a flat course with smooth tarmac paths throughout, except for the final 70 meters which are covered in grass. The route follows scenic coastal trails along Marine Drive and through the charming streets of Irvine, offering runners stunning views and an enjoyable running experience.
On race day, chip-pin timing by ‘What’s My Time’ will ensure accurate results. Athletes must collect their bib numbers and chips at the Linthouse Building within the Scottish Maritime Museum between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM on August 19th. Be sure to arrive early as you'll need your own number and chip for race day.
To enhance safety, runners are reminded not to wear headphones during the event, and any participant found using them will be disqualified. The course is unsuitable for wheelchairs or strollers, ensuring a fair challenge for all competitors. Water stations along the route provide essential hydration opportunities, with additional water available at the finish line.
Post-race festivities include refreshments in the Maritime Museum and free ice cream from Vanilla Joe's for all participants. Prize-giving will take place promptly at 8:15 PM within the museum as well. Medals are awarded to every finisher, adding a touch of celebration to your achievement.
For those traveling by car, ample parking is available near the Scottish Maritime Museum and Beach Park. The nearby Harbour Arts Centre also offers convenient restrooms for participants. Alternatively, the train station in Irvine provides easy access with an overflow lot available for additional space.

Prizes will be awarded for first male and female finishers, along with age group categories (40+, 50+, 60+, and 70+). Team awards are also up for grabs based on overall team times. Each runner can win only one individual prize but may contribute to a team victory.
