Immerse yourself in the scenic beauty and rich history of Scotland's Moray region as you embark on the Laich o’ Moray 50, a challenging yet rewarding endurance walk. Starting from Rafford Village Hall, participants set out along forestry tracks and the picturesque Dava Way towards Forres, where the route transitions to coastal paths hugging the Moray Coast’s serene beaches. The journey continues inland via old railway lines leading through Elgin before looping back to Forres on a mix of forest trails and country lanes. This circular 50-mile adventure is designed with consideration for tides, ensuring that participants will experience sections under moonlit skies during their trek along the coastline from Lossiemouth to Burghead. Walkers commence at dawn at 8am, while runners and jog-walkers follow two hours later at 10am. The event includes five manned checkpoints strategically placed throughout the course: Findhorn, Burghead, Lossiemouth, Elgin, and Miltonduff. At these stops, participants can refuel with refreshments and hot meals, particularly enjoying a hearty meal at the halfway point. Upon completion of their journey, all finishers are greeted with breakfast on arrival back at Rafford Village Hall, where they will also receive goody bags and certificates commemorating their achievement. For those traveling by public transport, details can be provided to arrange transfers from and to Forres, connecting runners and walkers with local rail and bus services. The event offers ample parking and space for tents on the playing field at Rafford Village Hall, ensuring a comfortable stay before or after the race. Participants are encouraged to indicate their requirements in advance via the entry form to help organizers plan accordingly. As part of its status as an LDWA annual 100-mile walk qualifier event, most places are reserved for LDWA members looking to take on this challenge. However, non-LDWA members and runners also have a limited number of spots available. Join fellow enthusiasts and engage in discussions on the official Facebook page to share insights and prepare for your adventure. This unique blend of natural beauty, historical charm, and community spirit makes the Laich o’ Moray 50 an unforgettable experience for any endurance enthusiast. About Forres
Learn more about the host city, Forres.
Forres is a town in Moray in northeast Scotland, with a population of 9090 in 2020. By the second century AD it was sufficiently famous to be mapped as Οὐάραρ εἴσχυσις — "Varar Estuary" — by Claudius Ptolemy of Alexandria. Forres has whisky distilleries that can be visited and an elegant castle, but Ptolemy wasn't to know that.
