The Scores Race, set to take place on August 30th, 2026, marks the 27th edition of this challenging and historic race in Lowestoft, Britain's most easterly town. Organized by Waveney Valley Athletic Club, the event offers runners a unique experience through the scenic streets and steep scores of Lowestoft. The senior race for participants aged 16 years and over will kick off at 2:30 pm, followed closely by the junior race for athletes between ages 9 to 15 starting just five minutes later. Both races feature rigorous courses that traverse some of the town's most iconic landmarks while offering stunning views. The senior course spans approximately 4.75 miles and includes a daunting ascent over 401 steps, taking competitors through 13 steep scores. For younger athletes in the junior race, they'll tackle about 1.4 miles with 254 steps across their route. Both races are known for their spirited atmosphere, supported by enthusiastic spectators lining the streets. To minimize environmental impact, organizers have taken measures to reduce waste and carbon emissions during the event. Participants can bring their own named water bottles and leave them at a designated table near the finish line instead of using single-use plastic bottles provided elsewhere. After crossing the finish line, runners will be greeted by Christchurch's support with race HQ offering bag drop facilities and post-race refreshments. Prize-giving ceremonies for both senior and junior categories will also take place here. Senior race winners in each gender category (1st to 3rd) along with veteran divisions V40 through V70, stand a chance of receiving monetary prizes if they break the course record; £50 is awarded for this achievement. Junior participants can vie for medals and trophies across age groups within their respective genders. All competitors will receive commemorative t-shirts upon completion of the race. Sizes are available in junior (ages 7-13) ranging from small to extra-large based on chest measurements, and senior sizes range from extra-small through double-extra large. Participants should ensure they have selected their preferred size accurately during registration.
