Muthill Sportive returns on August 29th, 2026, offering cyclists an exhilarating day of riding with the addition of a brand-new Elite Black route covering 80 miles. This year's lineup includes five distinct distances to cater to all levels of experience and endurance: Green (Family), Yellow (Easy), Blue (Challenge), Red (Sportive), and now the elite-level Black. The new Black route features an impressive total ascent of 3,900 feet with challenging gradients that are best suited for cyclists who can maintain an average speed of at least 14.5 mph during similar events. Participants should be prepared to navigate using Strava or a comparable app as this course is not marked. The event kicks off from Muthill Parish Church in the heart of Muthill, offering a quiet and safe starting point for all riders. The Elite Black distance starts at 8:50 AM followed by the Sportive (Red) route beginning at 9:00 AM, while the Challenge (Blue), Easy Ride (Yellow), and Family (Green) routes start later in the morning. Registration takes place near Muthill Parish Church with specific time windows for each distance. Cyclists will receive a chip timing device and emergency contact information upon registration to ensure accurate tracking throughout their ride. For those tackling longer distances, there's an additional food station approximately halfway through both the Elite Black and Sportive routes. After completing any of the courses, all participants are invited to enjoy home-baked treats and tea in the Bruce Hall. Safety is a top priority at Muthill Sportive. Cyclists must wear approved helmets at all times as per British Cycling guidelines for non-competitive events. While there will be marshals guiding riders along shorter routes, those on the Black route should plan their navigation accordingly using Strava or similar apps provided they have downloaded the GPX file beforehand. The entry fees vary depending on the distance chosen but include chipped timing and post-event refreshments. For longer distances such as Elite (Black) at £42 and Sportive (Red) at £38, snacks and water are also available halfway through the ride. Fundraising for Muthill's Crieff Cycle Path plays a significant role in this event; contributions from entry fees go directly towards supporting both the event itself and the cycle path project. Additional fundraising efforts by participants would be greatly appreciated to help meet funding goals. With its mix of scenic countryside routes, community support, and competitive spirit, Muthill Sportive offers something for every cyclist looking to challenge themselves or enjoy a leisurely ride through beautiful landscapes.
