Northstar Industries PTBO Kids Triathlon, set to take place on August 15, 2026 at Beavermead Park in Peterborough, Ontario, offers young athletes aged 3-11 the chance to experience a fun and engaging introduction to triathlons. For instance, the youngest competitors in the 3&Under category will tackle a short swim of 25 meters followed by equally brief bike and run legs of 100 meters each. As children grow older, so do the distances they cover: for example, kids aged 8-9 years old will complete a more substantial triathlon with a 50-meter swim, 3.8 kilometers on their bikes, and a one-kilometer run.
Safety is paramount at PTBO Kids Triathlon, which includes mandatory bike helmets during cycling segments. Volunteers are stationed throughout the course to assist young racers as needed. The event also highlights the importance of transition skills—moving smoothly between swimming, biking, and running phases—which helps develop discipline and teamwork among participants.
Post-race activities include a nutritious meal provided for all race finishers and an opportunity to cheer on their peers, fostering camaraderie and mutual support among young athletes. Results are meticulously recorded using chip timing technology from Splits Timing; these results will be displayed both at the venue immediately after each wave finishes and online later.
Proceeds from this event benefit two local children's charities: Peterborough Child & Family Centres and Canopy Support Services, ensuring that your participation makes a positive impact beyond just personal achievement.
