Phoenix Striders Summer Series Round 4

Welcome to the Langdon Discovery Nature Park - Phoenix Summer Series, an engaging 5k trail running event that promises excitement and adventure through the picturesque paths of Langdon Hills.
Scheduled for Tuesday evenings at 19:30, this series features two remaining races in July and August. The fourth round takes place on July 21st, with the final race set for August 18th. Entry fees are £2.50 for affiliated adults and £4.50 for unaffiliated runners; U18s pay £1.50 if affiliated or £2.50 otherwise.
The event is open to participants aged 12 years and older, who will navigate a challenging yet rewarding course that includes two laps of the park’s scenic 2.5k circuit. The race begins and concludes at the Discovery Centre within Langdon Nature Discovery Park, offering runners breathtaking views and varied terrain throughout their journey.
Participants should expect rugged trails featuring overhanging branches, tree roots, cobbles, brick paths, stones, slippery mud, brambles, and nettles. Proper footwear and clothing are essential to ensure a comfortable run through the natural landscape of Langdon Hills.
The Discovery Centre provides basic amenities such as toilets but lacks changing facilities. The venue also offers a selection of Essex Wildlife Trust merchandise, refreshments like hot and cold drinks, snacks, ice creams, and sweets for post-race refueling.
Race numbers can be picked up from the Discovery Centre on race day; arriving early is recommended to secure your number promptly. At the end of the season, there will be league trophies awarded to U16s, adults, and the club with the highest turnout across all rounds.
Safety measures include marshals stationed along the course, a tailwalker ensuring no one gets left behind, and two first aiders equipped with emergency medical kits and AED devices. Participants must inform race officials of any pre-existing health conditions before starting and are advised to run at their own pace for an enjoyable experience focused on finishing.
The event is conducted under Trail Runners Association Permit No.7231 and adheres to England Athletics rules, emphasizing fair play and safety throughout the competition. Key regulations prohibit pushchairs, dogs, and regular headphones (bone conduction devices are allowed but must be kept at low volume). Results will be posted on the Phoenix Striders website for review.
The event supports two important charities: Essex Wildlife Trust, dedicated to wildlife conservation across Essex; and Brighter Outcomes for Special People (BOSP), which provides high-quality activities and support services for children with complex disabilities or life-limiting conditions.
