Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club's 16th Annual McDermott 3-State Tour 2026
About the Event
Experience the McDermott 3-State Tour (M3ST) with the Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club this summer. Departing from Robert Morris University Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on July 28th, this cycling adventure spans across Southwest Pennsylvania and into West Virginia and Ohio. The route offers a picturesque journey through diverse landscapes, featuring rolling hills, challenging climbs, and scenic flat stretches that wind their way through the countryside. Whether you choose to tackle the 62-mile or 100-mile course, both offer breathtaking views and memorable scenery. Participants in either distance will benefit from three strategically placed rest stops along with a full lunch service. SAG support is available for all routes, ensuring safety and assistance when needed. The exact route details will be emailed to registrants seven days prior to the event, allowing ample time to prepare. The 62-mile ride boasts approximately 3,700 feet of elevation gain, while the longer 100-mile option climbs with around 5,600 feet in total ascent. The tour is scheduled to kick off promptly at 7:30 am on July 28th; riders are expected to reach Sweetwater Bicycle by 2:30 pm for rest stop closure. Those unable or unwilling to continue without support can use the SAG vehicle back to the start. For those looking to warm up, a pre-event ride is scheduled for July 18th. This city tour offers an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the area and get into cycling mode before the main event. Details will be posted two weeks in advance on their website. Accommodations are recommended early due to other events happening that weekend. The Hotel Fairfield on Neville Island, located at 5850 Grand Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15225, is a convenient option for participants seeking lodging nearby. Proceeds from this event support the Major Force Youth Cycling Program (MFYCP), benefiting young cyclists in the region. About Pittsburgh
Learn more about the host city, Pittsburgh.
The pleasure of Pittsburgh remains a well-kept secret. Though not built up by reputation, the city's unique combination of bridges, steep hills, and broad rivers make it one of the most naturally scenic cities in the country. Cheap food and beer abound in this true sports town and the locals are amazingly friendly. A city of about 303,000 (2021) in Allegheny County, at the center of a metro area of about 2.4 million in southwestern Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh is situated at the confluence of three rivers: the Monongahela and Allegheny Rivers, which meet to form the Ohio River. The city's unique terrain has resulted in an unusual city design and a hodge-podge of unique neighborhood "pockets" with diverse ethnic and architectural heritage. Pittsburgh has a rich history and, for its size, an unusual array of cultural treasures, largely thanks to the wealth that was generated when Pittsburgh was a hub of industry.
