Race The Tide invites runners of all abilities to experience the stunning landscapes and tranquil settings of South Devon's Flete Estate. Nestled along the picturesque Erme estuary, this unique race offers three distinct challenges that cater to various skill levels. The centerpiece event is the Long Marathon, which has earned a spot in Runner’s World Top 100 worldwide events for its scenic beauty and challenging terrain. Participants will traverse private footpaths, bridle paths, and coastal trails before reaching Bigbury beach and running across the causeway to Burgh Island—a location immortalized by Agatha Christie as she penned two of her novels. The Half Marathon shares a similar route with the Long Marathon but offers runners an earlier start time and fewer miles. Both races require participants to maintain an average pace of 4mph for successful completion, ensuring that they can enjoy the breathtaking views without feeling rushed. Completing Race The Tide also includes the option to participate in the Woodland Trail race, which covers a distance of 8.5 miles through lush forests and along serene paths within the estate. Each course is meticulously marked with aid stations well-stocked for hydration and nourishment needs, ensuring that runners are supported throughout their journey. All races start at designated times: Long Marathon begins promptly at 10:45 am, followed by the Half-Marathon and Woodland Trail starting simultaneously at 1 pm. Start times may vary slightly up to half an hour due to logistical arrangements closer to race day. Runners will appreciate free parking on site, which is usually a fee of £6 per car but offered without charge for Race The Tide participants. Upon crossing the finish line, all racers receive bespoke event medals celebrating their achievement. Participants can also purchase official Race The Tide merchandise such as t-shirts and additional OuterEdge gear through SiEntries online to commemorate their participation. First aid stations are positioned along each route and at the race headquarters should any medical attention be required during or after the competition. Dogs are not permitted on the race course, ensuring that runners have an uninterrupted experience focused solely on the beauty of South Devon’s natural surroundings. For added peace of mind, participants can opt to purchase XCover insurance for a refund in case unforeseen circumstances prevent their attendance. Race The Tide promises a memorable and invigorating day out with its combination of stunning scenery, supportive community atmosphere, and challenging but rewarding routes through one of England's most picturesque regions.
