The 6th annual Steps for Sue walkathon fundraiser is set to take place on Sunday, August 9th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Malden Park Visitor Centre. This heartfelt event honors the memory of Sue Skrobiak, who dedicated over three decades as a secretary in the Odette School of Business and became known affectionately as the MBA “mom” for her unwavering support. The walkathon will follow a 3 km route through the scenic trails of Malden Park. Participants are encouraged to complete this journey at their own pace, making it suitable for all levels of runners and walkers alike. Commemorating Sue’s selfless dedication, every step taken on this course is in her honor. Before starting the walkathon, a poignant memorial service will be held at 10:00 am inside Malden Park Visitor Centre. Family, friends, colleagues, and supporters are invited to gather for shared memories of Sue, fostering an atmosphere of unity and remembrance. Upon completing the route or after their preferred distance, participants can enjoy complimentary light refreshments at the visitor centre. The event not only celebrates Sue’s legacy but also raises funds for Hospice of Windsor and Essex County, a vital organization that has provided invaluable support to Sue Skrobiak's family over the years. All proceeds will be directly donated to the hospice, ensuring its continued commitment to serving the community with compassion and care. About Windsor
Learn more about the host city, Windsor.
Windsor is a mid-sized Canadian city on the southwest tip of Ontario. It's an extremely multicultural city with over 20% of its population having been born outside of Canada. The city's rich cultural background is evident in its Middle Eastern, Italian, and Asian neighbourhoods. Just across the Detroit River from Detroit and the American border, it's one of the very few places where you have to go south to enter Canada. Its main waterfront park stretches about 5 km (3.1 mi), from the 1929 Ambassador suspension bridge past the contemporary Windsor Sculpture Park. It ends near the 1894 Italianate Canadian Club Heritage Centre, which recalls when Windsor was a source for liquor smuggled to the Prohibition-era states.
