The Taunton Flyer Sportive, now entering its ninth year, promises an exhilarating ride through the picturesque landscapes of East Devon and Somerset. Set to take off from Smeatharpe Airfield near Honiton, this early-season cycling event pays homage to the wartime airfields that dot the region, including RAF Exeter (Exeter Airport), RAF Dunkeswell, RAF Upottery (Smeatharpe), RAF Culmhead, RAF Merryfield, and RAF Westonzoyland.
The Taunton Flyer offers a unique blend of flat roads stretching across open countryside and challenging climbs through the Blackdown Hills—an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cyclists can choose from three routes: the Spitfire (37 miles), Dakota (63 miles) or Wellington (101 miles). Each route is meticulously signed, ensuring participants stay on track while enjoying stunning views.
The event features well-stocked feed stations along each course to keep cyclists fueled and hydrated throughout their journey.
